Dunquin
It was a 360m climb out of Ventry, but the hike was worth the reward. We passed through pastures with sheep grazing amidst hundreds of prehistoric ruins. We lost sight of Dingle Bay but were rewarded by the wild coastline from Slea Head and north. Coming down off the particularly steep slope of Sliabh an…

Ventry
Making good time this morning. Stopping for lunch just west of Ventry, Miss Fish is soaking her feet in a cool estuary. Weather is still phenomenal, and the wildflowers are finally blooming. Went to O’Flaherty’s in Dingle last night; we got to listen to a fine trad session and guzzle some Guinness. As we were…

Off We Go…Dingle Westward
We don’t know the next time we can post an update, so we’ll post a multiday map of our journey for the next few days. Tomorrow, our goal is the hostel in Dunquin, and we’ll probably divide the following trail into three days so that there are a couple of easy days before tackling the…

Dingle…finally
After reaching Annascaul, we spent a very pleasant and comfortable evening at the Anchor B&B, talking about maps, traveling by foot, and other important matters with Brian, the innkeeper. I was going to write a short piece via cellphone, but I fell asleep with the phone still clutched in my hand. In the morning, we…

Off We Go – Annascaul to Dingle
A twelve mile day with about 1000 foot elevation gain [findmespotmap start=”2010-04-16 00:00:00″ end=”2010-04-16 23:59:59″ id=”0-8062822″] [kmlmap w=500 h=500 kml=”03-annascauldingle.kmz”]

In Annascaul
A much easier hike. We’re doing everything over the mobile phone, ao there are no pictures for noe. We’ll get some up when we make it to Dingle. After a pleasant breakfast at the Sea View house, we headed back to the trailhead. We fell in with a pleasant woman who was walking up the…

Off We Go, Day 2 Camp to Annascaul
Camp to Annascaul has a larger elevation gain but more pleasant terrain. Sore legs and a mild headache after drinking last night at Ashe’s [findmespotmap start=”2010-04-15 00:00:00″ end=”2010-04-15 23:59:59″ id=”0-8062822″]

Footsore but happy in Camp
Across moors, rocks, and boggy earth…we’re really hoping that the trail gets easier from here. However, it was an incredible day with great weather and world-class hiking and views, so our complaining is tempered with enjoyment. As we started our long traverse of Slieve Mish, we watched a sheep herder putting his collie through his…

Along the Way
Finally feels good to get back on the trail. We’ve stopped for a lunch break on crossing the Curraheen River as it flows from the Slieve Mish. The country is stony and stark, very much like the alpine landscape above treeline, except there’s oxygen and lots of sheep.
